We should not be trying to work out irregular forms of new verbs just because some people think a regular conjugation doesn't sound right. Text is now a verb because most of us use it as a verb, and like it or not that's how the English language evolves. I don't understand why anyone is confused about this. To communicate by text message: He texted that he would be late. To send a text message to: She texted me when she arrived. I believe the past tense of text should be texted, but pronounced with the 2nd "t" silent.
